I didn’t want another dog…
Our sweet boy Tahoe was a beautiful part of our lives and I didn’t want another dog coming in and taking away his love and attention.
Tahoe is the kind of dog who takes care of us and I just couldn’t see sharing life with another, yet 15 months later life is even sweeter than it was.
Rylee with her small body and big personality has charmed her way into all of our lives and makes each day an adventure of never-ending entertainment.
I first caught sight of Rylee when I was perusing web sites for Corgis because Jim, my husband and I both love this breed of dog.
It was fun looking at different puppies and dogs and dreaming of owning one, but for me that’s all it was at the time – a dream.
Then one day in December on the way back from a road trip with Jim I got on the Be My Forever Home website and saw a picture of what would be my future, furry, faithful, friend.
Huge, corgi ears extended from her small body. That coupled with the attitude that was portrayed in her picture made me take another look and then another. Jim had also found her picture and was taken by her.
He suggested we think about adopting her but it was only January.
As a teacher I had envisioned bringing a new dog into our home in the summer when I was off and able to transition a new dog into our home.
This definitely didn’t fit into my plan so I kept putting him off saying, “yeah, we should contact them,” and “we’ll have to do that soon.” That day came sooner than planned when I came home from school about a week later and Jim said he had made a call to the woman who was sheltering Rylee temporarily.
She was still available and when did we want to go get her? After completing an application and being approved we were set to pick her up in Dallas on January 13th.
On the day we picked her up she entered the room hesitantly and quickly came up to the woman she had been staying with and hid behind her back.
Mistrustful eyes peered out from behind the woman and I remember thinking to myself, “Oh little girl, I have already fallen in love with you!” I was told that she was skittish and most likely wouldn’t come around me for at least three weeks. I was prepared for that and realized that I had to take my time to gain her trust.
Four hours later somewhere between Austin and New Braunfels, trust had been established! I was and am officially her person.
She is beside me in the morning as I get ready for work and she is beside me when I fall asleep at night. Ever-vigilant, ever-protective, and ever-loving she has warmed her way into our hearts.
She has made our lives even happier than they were and keeps our 11 year-old Tahoe on his toes! She keeps him moving and he has taught her all about doing dog stuff – checking messages on walks, chasing squirrels, and barking at anyone or anything that goes by our window.
Thank God for these dogs and thank God for our Rylee. She has completed our little family! -Sylvia
Rylee has taken over the house.
That dog is insane and the greatest blessing we could ever have. She is so full of joy it's nuts.
Sometimes I think she's gonna pop she gets so excited.
Thank you again for bringing her into our lives! 😉
-Jim
